Today I have a quick and easy tutorial to show you how to set up a personalized email signature in G-mail (Google Mail) complete with a clickable link to your site! What is an email signature? A signature is text or a picture that appears every time you compose an email. It’s a great way to market your business by leaving a clickable link or picture that goes directly to your site.
First, you will need to create an image that you want to use as your signature. You can do this in picmonkey, ribbet, photoshop, or paint. Any editing program will do. You can decide how big or small your want your signature to be. I made mine 200 x 100 pixels. Once you create your signature upload it to Photobucket. I’ll get back to your image in one moment….
Log into your Google mail account and head on over to the right side of your screen where you will find a button that looks like a gear—this is your settings button.
Scroll down until you get to the part where it says “Signature.” Right now the circle next to the words “NO SIGNATURE” is selected. Simply click on the circle below that to move onto the next steps.
Now you need to click on the “INSERT IMAGE” link. If you only want text as your signature just start typing.
Go back to Photobucket where you image is stored. Right click on the image and select the option ” COPY IMAGE URL.” Copy it and head back to your g-mail. When you click on the “INSERT IMAGE” icon a box will appear prompting you to paste your image url.
Now that your picture has been added, you need to highlight your picture and click on the “link” button. Another box will appear prompting you to copy and paste the url you want your image to direct your readers to. In my case, I linked my “logo” to my website.
Scroll to the bottom and click “Save Changes.” To check out your new signature, compose a letter and it will automatically appear.
You have two options for your email signature when you are replying. You can either have your email signature appear at the bottom of all the previous text which in most cases your reader won’t see your email signature. Messages in reply mode seem to truncate (make smaller )themselves in the reply section which means your signature is all the way at the bottom. This isn’t a big deal, it just depends on personal preference.
If you want your email signature to always appear before the past text when replying, just head back over to your settings gear and your signature section. Check mark the box stating that your signature will appear before your quoted (past) text.
Click “Save Changes” again and it will now appear before the past text in the reply section.
Have fun! Let me know if you have ANY questions!
