Facebook Updates Its Cover Photo Policy On New Year!

Facebook rules and regulations are updated regularly and if you’re an entrepreneur or a page admin, you must stay updated on all the new developments that enhance the social media experience for your fans and customers.

As the New Year brought new beginnings, Facebook also introduced a new policy regarding the text overlay on cover photos and News Feed ads. The new rule will be implemented from January 15 by limiting the text to only 20 percent of an image. Be careful, as the text within logo will be counted toward this limit.

The social network always discouraged the calls to action and price related info on photos so that they don’t resemble the traditional banner ads used by advertisers as a strategy to capture the social media market on Facebook. However, the policy was never taken as seriously as it’s being enforced now.

News is that Facebook is also preparing a grid-based text overlay detection tool to pinpoint the divergent images. So beginning from January 15, all images appearing on the timeline will be reviewed for text overlay. To help the page admin asses their cover photos for approval, a version of this tool will be added in the Power Editor.

However, to clarify the situation, you are still allowed to post pictures with more than 20% text as long as you don’t intend to promote them in newsfeed. But if you want, you can turn them into ads that appear on the sidebar.

There are many other rules for Facebook cover photos in addition to the latest text limit. You can read more on the subject under section three on the Facebook Page Terms document.
